Bride of the Gorilla is a 1951 B-movie film directed by Curt Siodmak and starring Raymond Burr, Lon Chaney Jr. and Barbara Payton. The pre-release working title was The Face in the Water.
The only reason that I like this movie is because Raymond Burr is in it. I am his biggest fan. If he wasn’t in it, I wouldn’t like it.
Anyway, what happens is this:
Barney Chavez (Burr) is some guy’s plantation manager. He falls in love and has an affair with the guy’s wife. He kills the plantation manager (well, technically he doesn’t kill him. He just doesn’t do anything when the guy gets bitten by a snake. So yeah, loophole).
Of course, Miss busybody native witch sees this all go down and puts some kind of voodoo hex spell on Burr. At night he turns into a gorilla. Whatever.
The police commissioner (OMG Lon Chaney) is brought in to investigate the plantation owners death and the rash of animal killings.
Dina (Barbara Peyton), Burrs girlfriend, gets all pissy because he likes the jungle more than her. She follows him into the jungle one night and he attacks her. Lucky for her the police guy is close by. He follows the screams, and then shoots Gorilla Burr – or as I like to call him Burrila.
Anyway, he turns back into
Perry Mason his human form – Tragically, The End
I give this movie 5 out of 10 stars. *****
